Aromatherapy
Origins
The term 'aromatherapy' was first introduced in the contemporary era in 1935 by René-Maurice Gattefossé, who is recognized as the Father of Aromatherapy.
Gattefossé was a chemist from Lyon, France who engaged in a myriad of scientific explorations using essential oils.
He was able to showcase the efficacy of aromatherapy within hospital settings by meticulously documenting the clinical outcomes of patients who had received treatment with the solutions. In addition, he actively studied the physiologic effects of these extracts and authored four booklets detailing the therapeutic applications for lavender.
Maurice Gattefossé’s research began to gain recognition during the 1920s and 1930s, culminating in the publication of his influential book, "Aromatherapy," in 1937.
