CQRM BULLETIN - FDA Warns 26 OTC Eye Care Products Pose Risk To Eye Health
Product Use Could Lead To Infection, Vision Impairment
The FDA is warning the public that 26 over-the-counter eye care products could result in eye infections. Eyedrops and gels from CVS Health, Rugby (Cardinal Health), Leader (Cardinal Health), Rite Aid, Target, and Velocity Pharma are among these items.
FDA officials discovered unhygienic conditions at a manufacturing facility. This included positive bacterial testing in important production areas. On Wednesday, the agency directed the manufacturers to recall the implicated items.
As of 10/30/2023, the agency updated the list of over-the-counter eye drop products consumers should not purchase or use to include Equate Hydration PF Lubricant Eye Drop 10 mL sold by Walmart in stores and online. The corporation is removing the product from their store shelves and website.
The agency advises customers to dispose of these goods by returning them to a medicine take-back location, or checking to see if they can be disposed of at home. Find out more about this alert by following up at the FDA site:
