Level Up With New Pharmacy Tech Program
Texas A&M Adds Pharmacy Tech Training
The universityโs Irma Lerma Rangel School of Pharmacy announced it will add a pharmacy technician program, called Aggie PTP, in early 2024.
Aggie PTP representatives relayed that the current shortage of pharmacy technicians has resulted in reduced pharmacy business hours, backlogs of unfilled prescriptions, delays in patients receiving their medications, and suboptimal health outcomes.
The Aggie PTP program director stated that Texas is experiencing a shortage and is in dire need of pharmacy technicians. Their 17-week curriculum is based on the apprenticeship model where students practice in community or hospital pharmacies what they learn in the classroom and lab.
The Aggie PTP is now accepting applicants, with an application deadline set for January 1, 2024. The total tuition cost for this program is $4,000 plus a non-refundable $25 application fee. There will be merit-based and needs-based scholarships to offset this tuition cost.
