Textbooks in the Open Textbook Library are considered open because they are free to use and distribute. These texts are licensed to be freely adapted or changed when proper attribution is utilized. These are textbooks that are in use at multiple higher education institutions, or affiliated with a higher education institution, scholarly society, or professional organizations (a.k.a. colleges and universities).
The Open Textbook Library
The Open Textbook Library is an online collection of openly licensed textbooks. This resource is available 24/7 online to anyone interested in the texts. Items can be downloaded (PDF) with one simple click.
Nursing and healthcare students will find numerous volumes on fundamentals, skills, and theory. One simple search reveals new editions of A&P, laboratory, and pharmacology textbooks.
About The “Library”
The textbooks that are available in the Open Textbook Library are considered open.
The criteria for inclusion in the Open Textbook Library are:
All content must be openly licensed. They will accept textbooks licensed with GNU and Creative Commons (CC) licenses, excepting of the CC ND (No Derivatives) component.
All texts must be a complete AND available as a complete portable file (e.g. PDF, EPUB).
Must be in use at multiple higher education institutions, or affiliated with a higher education institution, scholarly society, or professional organization.
Texts must also be an original textbook. Not a derivative of another text.
